Advisors & Supporters
ViC enjoys support from several multinational corporations. Representatives from these corporations also serve as advisors to ViC, lending their expertise in technology and finance.
Representing Google is Ishi Singh (New Business Development in Southeast Asia), who will act as a tech advisor to ViC and our promoted startups. Ishi has been involved in a variety of areas within Google, including infrastructure, mobile, commerce and incubation.
Ishi Singh has been with Google since 2006 and currently heads up New Business Development in SE Asia for Google focusing on innovative strategic partnerships. He has worked in a variety of areas at Google including infrastructure, mobile, commerce and incubation. Prior to Google, Ishi worked in a variety of roles in Telecom industry and specialized in multi party negotiations. He holds degrees from New York University, University of Hawaii and IIT Guwahati.
Microsoft
Representing Microsoft is Peter Tam (Director, Local Software Innovations, Microsoft Malaysia), who has come on board as a Supporter cum Advisor. Peter is currently involved with enhancing the local software ecosystem and works closely with independent software vendors (ISVs).
Microsoft has also invited ViC as a Network Partner for its Microsoft BizSpark programme.
Boston Consulting Group
The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has also joined as one of our Advisors, represented by Vincent Chin (Partner and Managing Director, BCG Kuala Lumpur). In 2007 and 2008, BCG published a thorough review on Malaysia’s financial and investment sector which highlighted that Malaysia has a very poor angel investment ecosystem and that tapping into a group of angel investors was the single biggest challenge for startup companies.
Vincent Chin is The Boston Consulting Group’s Global Leader for the Economic Development topic. He also leads BCG’s Financial Institutions Practice across South East Asia and is the head of BCG’s Malaysian office.
Vincent has over 22 years of experience in line management and consulting positions. A computer scientist by training, Vincent’s core area of focus in consulting has been in Strategy Formulation and Corporate Development. He has worked primarily with clients in Financial Services, Government agencies, and Energy & Utilities across Asia Pacific.
- Vincent has worked in developing the country’s human capital masterplan and has led projects to review industrial clusters, formulated corridor masterplans, produced investor handbooks, facilitated sector action plans amongst others
- In Strategy, Vincent specializes in formulating breakthrough strategies which is derived from new competitive insights such as low-cost business model and virtual networked organizations
- In Corporate Development, he has helped negotiate and put together joint ventures and special purpose vehicles in Asia in technology, energy, financial services and education businesses
- Combining the two, Vincent has helped launch and run a number of the new as well as merged business entities that he helped put together
As a member of BCG’s regional management team, Vincent also leads their Social Impact and Education networks which focuses on making a difference to society. Vincent serves on the board of Singapore Institute of Management Pte Ltd.
Prior to joining BCG, Vincent was a manager with Andersen Consulting (now known as Accenture) specializing in New Ventures and Strategy. Before Accenture, he was a Manager in Singapore Airlines (where he served as station manager based in Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Zurich). Vincent holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School (with a Dean’s Special Commendation for being in the top percentile of the international student population). He also holds a Bachelor of Information Sciences from National University of Singapore, where he studied as an ASEAN Scholar.
